A museum without research is a museum without life!
A museum is not just an exhibition, but also has the mission of collecting, restoring, identifying, preserving, and studying its collection.
Developing the research is one of the main objectives.
In the outcrops of the Taubaté Basin, especially in its lacustrine Formation, the MHNT (National Museum of Natural History and Science) maintains constant collection, preparation, and study.
The current work of the Museum is a continuation of what had already been done since 1976 by the museum's founder.

Restoring fossils requires a great deal of patience and skill, as well as technical knowledge.

The scientific collection of birds includes more than 14,500 skins used in studies of identification, systematics, paleontology, and ecology.

The MHNT's collection of bird skeletons is the richest in all of Latin America. It has contributed to numerous research projects worldwide.
Taxidermied animals and numerous disassembled skeletons are used for studies in paleontology, taxonomy, and comparative anatomy, but this material is only available to researchers.

Bones of Brazilian mastodons are part of the scientific collection of the MHNT (Museum of Natural History of Toledo).
